‘The Scourge Of Crooked Drumpf Attacks Against Our Trans Community’
(23 May 2023)

The Scourge Of Crooked Drumpf Attacks Against Our Trans Community.

Republi-cons and Christian Con-servatives are ‘Pro-Life’???

There will be a running theme today.

For starters.

CBS News reported that 3% of Black Americans voted for Crooked Drumpf in the 2016 Election.

One Black person seems to be too many.

Every day, Spawn Robertson and his CBN ‘700 Club’ TV show runs feature stories presenting Black Americans joining the Racist Republi-con Party and segregationist Christian Con-servative ideology.

Crooked Drumpf committed an intentional act of mass murder, Social Murder, and Genocide against American Black citizens.  Crooked Drumpf observed during the early stages of the Coronavirus Pandemic that it was killing Black people more than White people.  The British medical journal reported here in 2023 that Crooked Drumpf’s mishandling of Coronavirus during 2020 led directly to at least 500.000 deaths.

The more time passes, little changes, little improves.

Allow me to give credit to Avari Merchant, a few years late.  I was reading through some old articles and came across this today.

Avari charts an accounting of Crooked Drumpf’s crimes.

Her list was from four years ago, effective as of when she wrote it.

We need to know that Crooked Drumpf multiplied his transgressions since then.

Sadly, Garland has failed to so much as whisper any hint of prosecuting Crooked Drumpf for his innumerable crimes.  Nor has any state made any effective move, other than flapping some gums.  Oh, big noogies!  So one small prosecutor put out one piddling Civil case; Crooked Drumpf will never himself pay that $5 million fine.

From a friend. Print this out and show it to any pro-Trump LGBT folks you know. If they still defend Trump, crumple the list and shove it up their ass…

You want a list of all the anti-trans anti-LGBT actions this administration has taken?

March 13, 2019: The Department of Defense laid out its plans for implementing its ban on transgender troops, giving an official implementation date of April 12.

January 23, 2019: The Department of Health & Human Services’ Office of Civil Rights granted an exemption to adoption and foster care agencies in South Carolina, allowing religiously-affiliated services to discriminate against current and aspiring LGBTQ caregivers.

November 23, 2018: The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) erased critical guidance that helped federal agency managers understand how to support transgender federal workers and respect their rights, replacing clear and specific guidance reflecting applicable law and regulations with vaguely worded guidance hostile to transgender workers. While this guidance change did not change the rights of transgender federal workers under applicable law, regulations, Executive Orders, and case law, it is likely to cause confusion and promote discrimination within the nation’s largest employer.

August 10, 2018: The Department of Labor released a new directive for Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) staff encouraging them to grant broad religious exemptions to federal contractors with religious-based objections to complying with nondiscrimination laws. It also deleted material from an OFCCP FAQ on LGBT nondiscrimination protections that previously clarified the limited scope of allowable religious exemptions.

June 11, 2018: Attorney General Jeff Sessions ruled that the federal government would no longer recognized gang violence or domestic violence as grounds for asylum, adopting a legal interpretation that could lead to rejecting most LGBT asylum-seekers.

May 11, 2018: The Bureau of Prisons in the Department of Justice adopted an illegal policy of almost entirely housing transgender people in federal prison facilities that match their sex assigned at birth, rolling back existing protections.

March 23, 2018: The Trump Administration announced an implementation plan for its discriminatory ban on transgender military service members.

February 18, 2018: The Department of Education announced it will summarily dismiss complaints from transgender students involving exclusion from school facilities and other claims based solely on gender identity discrimination.

January 26, 2018: The Department of Health and Human Services proposed a rule that encourages medical providers to use religious grounds to deny treatment to transgender people, people who need reproductive care, and others.

January 18, 2018: The Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Civil Rights opened a “Conscience and Religious Freedom Division” that will promote discrimination by health care providers who can cite religious or moral reasons for denying care.

December 14, 2017: Staff at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention were instructed not to use the words “transgender,” “vulnerable,” “entitlement,” “diversity,” “fetus,” “evidence-based,” and “science-based” in official documents.

October 6, 2017: The Justice Department released a sweeping “license to discriminate” allowing federal agencies, government contractors, government grantees, and even private businesses to engage in illegal discrimination, as long as they can cite religious reasons for doing so.

October 5, 2017: The Justice Department released a memo instructing Department of Justice attorneys to take the legal position that federal law does not protect transgender workers from discrimination.

September 7, 2017: The Justice Department filed a legal brief on behalf of the United States in the U.S. Supreme Court, arguing for a constitutional right for businesses to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation and, implicitly, gender identity.

August 25, 2017: President Trump released a memo directing Defense Department to move forward with developing a plan to discharge transgender military service members and to maintain a ban on recruitment.

July 26, 2017: President Trump announced, via Twitter, that “the United States Government will not accept or allow Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military.”

July 26, 2017: The Justice Department filed a legal brief on behalf of the United States in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, arguing that the 1964 Civil Rights Act does not prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation or, implicitly, gender identity.

June 14, 2017: The Department of Education withdrew its finding that an Ohio school district discriminated against a transgender girl. The Department gave no explanation for withdrawing the finding, which a federal judge upheld.

May 2, 2017: The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced a plan to roll back regulations interpreting the Affordable Care Act’s nondiscrimination provisions to protect transgender people.

April 14, 2017: The Justice Department abandoned its historic lawsuit challenging North Carolina’s anti-transgender law. It did so after North Carolina replaced HB2 with a different anti-transgender law known as “HB 2.0.”

April 4, 2017: The Departments of Justice and Labor cancelled quarterly conference calls with LGBT organizations; on these calls, which had happened for years, government attorneys shared information on employment laws and cases.

March 31, 2017: The Justice Department announced it would review (and likely seek to scale back) numerous civil rights settlement agreements with police departments. These settlements were put in places where police departments were determined to be engaging in discriminatory and abusive policing, including racial and other profiling. Many of these agreements include critical protections for LGBT people.

March 2017: The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) removed links to four key resource documents from its website, which informed emergency shelters on best practices for serving transgender people facing homelessness and complying with HUD regulations.

March 28, 2017: The Census Bureau retracted a proposal to collect demographic information on LGBT people in the 2020 Census.

March 24, 2017: The Justice Department cancelled a long-planned National Institute of Corrections broadcast on “Transgender Persons in Custody: The Legal Landscape.”

March 13, 2017: The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that its national survey of older adults, and the services they need, would no longer collect information on LGBT participants. HHS initially falsely claimed in its Federal Register announcement that it was making “no changes” to the survey.

March 13, 2017: The State Department announced the official U.S. delegation to the UN’s 61st annual Commission on the Status of Women conference would include two outspoken anti-LGBT organizations, including a representative of the Center for Family and Human Rights (C-FAM): an organization designated as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

March 10, 2017: The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced it would withdraw two important agency-proposed policies designed to protect LGBT people experiencing homelessness. One proposed policy would have required HUD-funded emergency shelters to put up a poster or “notice” to residents of their right to be free from anti-LGBT discrimination under HUD regulations.

The other announced a survey to evaluate the impact of the LGBTQ Youth Homelessness Prevention Initiative, implemented by HUD and other agencies over the last three years. This multi-year project should be evaluated, and with this withdrawal, we may never learn what worked best in the project to help homeless LGBTQ youth.

March 8, 2017: Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) removed demographic questions about LGBT people that Centers for Independent Living must fill out each year in their Annual Program Performance Report. This report helps HHS evaluate programs that serve people with disabilities.

March 2, 2017: The Department of Justice abandoned its request for a preliminary injunction against North Carolina’s anti-transgender House Bill 2, which prevented North Carolina from enforcing HB 2. This was an early sign that the Administration was giving up defending trans people (later, on April 14, it withdrew the lawsuit completely).

March 1, 2017: The Department of Justice took the highly unusual step of declining to appeal a nationwide preliminary court order temporarily halting enforcement of the Affordable Care Act’s nondiscrimination protections for transgender people. The injunction prevents HHS from taking any action to enforce transgender people’s rights from health care discrimination.

February 22, 2017: The Departments of Justice and Education withdrew landmark 2016 guidance explaining how schools must protect transgender students under the federal Title IX law.

The Burka, Hijab, and other attire are products of Patriarchal and Misogynist nations, religions, and cultures; they are NOT a fashion statement.  Men impose these dress codes under force of law against girls and women.  The penalty for the slightest infraction is immediate death sentence.

Republi-cons and Christian Con-servatives are passing state and local laws governing similar dress laws against girls and women.  Sharia is a Christian Con-servative religious ally.

Navajo and other Native Americans supporting Crooked DrumpFuhrer.

Those ‘Arizona trump supporters’ are Tenney’s people – both White and Navajo.

How can even one Navajo support Crooked DrumpFuhrer, let alone Navajo Nation officers as Karen Bedonie.  She is hardcore Right-wing Republi-con who supports Crooked DrumpFuhrer.  She is from New Mexico and is running for House of Representatives.

Browse Sylvia Tenney’s Facebook page.  She’s a Republi-con Drumpfian state legislator from Arizona.  Her social media contains grand praises for Crooked DrumpFuhrer by Navajo Nation citizenry.  Tenney’s Navajo supporters are campaigning for Bedonie for House of Representatives.  According to Tenney’s Facebook page, Bedonie has plenty of Navajo Nation support.

I don’t get it!

– Sharon

PS:

I went back to check Tenney’s page, obtain URLs, get some quotes.

Dunno?

Apparently this state legislator blocked and unfriended me.  I can no longer access her Facebook page (such as the one in the attachments).

That follows suit.

One of Tenney’s minions accused me of being a ‘troll’ and told me to not write comments anymore.  I replied that I have the Constitutional Right to challenge the claims of government officers and appointees – especially those who are elected, whose service is at the pleasure of the electorate.  My reply received a nasty statement about me ‘playing the Constitution card’, whatever that is supposed to mean.  Obviously, the Constitution is valid only for loyal Drumpfians and Republi-cons.

I did manage to get to another Tenney page.  Allow me to expand this issue.

Yes – you, too, can steal from the Public trough:

‘The pigs are at the trough. It’s gonna be great.’  Wes Gullet, R-Arizona (Republican Party campaign statement; 30 May 10)

‘People don’t like big business corporate tax cuts. Selling State buildings is a good deal for developers, it’s a gimmick that doesn’t benefit the State.’  Mike Sunnucks, R-‘Business Journal’ (KAET ‘Horizon’, 8 Jan 10)

‘Republicans have been hitting DES hard all year. Eliminating services from those who have no voice.’  Mary K. Reinhart, R-‘Arizona Guardian’ (KAET ‘Horizon’, 8 Jan 10)

‘We Republicans put this state in the wrong direction. It’s broken. It’s a mess.’  Doug Ducey, R (Campaign statement for Arizona Treasurer, 9 Aug 10)

Tenney and her minions are not shy.  They are boasting the mass closure of Public School, the demise of Public School.  Republi -cons and Christian Con-servative have been working for this success at least since the 1950s with the Brown decision.  They are cheering their success stealing our public taxpayer Dollars to fund their Christian Con-servative private schools.

Go to Republi-con or Christian Con-servative social media; e.g., go to ‘Senator Sylvia Allen’ on Facebook.  You’ll begin to see those posts congratulating themselves for using Coronavirus to divert the American Peoples’ attention from what they are really doing – subverting our Civil government, overthrowing our Constitution.

For the record.  I occasionally browsed Tenney’s Facebook page to monitor her actions, but I rarely commented.  I don’t have time to waste answering those people’s irrational statements.

(21 May 2020)

This is Farmington, NM – a bordertown (known for its history of racism against Navajo people) just miles outside of the #NavajoNation. Over 500 *RACIST* protestors gathered yesterday, proudly waving their flags of white supremacy knowing that the Navajo people are being devastated. We’ve lost 146 lives so far and they care more about haircuts and money than people and themselves. Please give a damn about your neighbors. Please give a damn about the first people of this land, who help your businesses & economy thrive. Please be decent people & CARE! #stayhome

AND if you’re calling the NM governor and our tribal leaders Nazis (when we were the ones colonized and survived genocide), comparing lockdowns to Nazi regime, then you’re trivializing the suffering, trauma, and genocide of both Jewish and Indigneous Peoples. Our tribal leaders are enforcing stricter lockdowns because they are protecting what we have left after American supremacy/colonizers decimated our populations. You are not respecting us and our efforts to help contain the spread among our people, your neighbors. You’re making our already dire situation worse for selfish reasons. (But I guess we shouldn’t be too surprised – you all compare the virus to the flu, after all.)

Why violence against transgender Americans is a crisis that’s under reported

A recent series of murders of transgender victims is causing growing concern, particularly for trans women of color. It comes at a time when trans celebrities are more accepted in pop culture than ever before — but also as the Trump administration aims to roll back Obama-era discrimination protections for transgender people. Amna Nawaz talks to the Anti-Violence Project’s Beverly Tillery.

Judy Woodruff:

There is growing concern in this country and fear about deadly attacks against transgender Americans, particularly trans women of color.

As Amna Nawaz tells us, a series of murders in different cities in just one week has underscored a larger pattern of violence over several years.

And yet it comes at a time when trans celebrities are more accepted and more prominent in pop culture.

Amna Nawaz:

Judy, the most recent killing took place last Sunday in north Philadelphia.

Michelle “Tamika” Washington, 40 years old and a longtime advocate for the LGBTQ community, was shot several times. Her death came one day after Muhlaysia Booker was found dead in Dallas. Booker was just 23, and just weeks before her death, she was attacked in a mob-like beating after a minor traffic accident.

One week before those murders, 21-year-old Claire Legato was shot in the head in Cleveland. She was killed after an argument between her mother and the suspected shooter.

Earlier this year, two more black transgender women, Ashanti Carmon and Dana Martin, were also killed. Last year, more than two dozen transgender people were killed. And according to a 2018 Human Rights Campaign report, there were at least 128 trans people killed in 32 states since 2013; 80 percent of them were people of color.

Let’s now take a closer look at this now with Beverly Tillery. She’s executive director of the Anti-Violence Project, an LGBTQ anti-violence organization.

Beverly, welcome to the “NewsHour.” Thank you for being with us.

I want to start by asking you about this recent state of killings. They happened across the country. The circumstances are all very different in each case. Do you know or believe that these women were targeted because they were transgender?

Beverly Tillery:

You know, I don’t know all of the specifics of each of these murders.

But what we know is, as you really just showed already, that we are seeing a tremendous number of homicides of trans women of color. Over and over, for the past several years, this has been consistent, and we need to pay attention as a society.

This is something that’s happening to our community members who are constantly under threat, experiencing other kinds of hate violence in our society, and we need to step up and come together and really do something to stop it.

Amna Nawaz:

Beverly, your organization tracks the numbers. You have been tracking them for 20 years.

Beverly Tillery:

That’s right.

Amna Nawaz:

When you look at the numbers, as we know them this year, as compared to last, there appears to be a reduction in the violence. Do you trust those numbers?

Beverly Tillery:

Well, what we always say is that, even what we report, we know is an underreporting of the violence that’s happening and the homicides that’s happening.

A number of homicides — and, of course, we can’t tell you how many — don’t ever get reported for a number of reasons. In some cases, we know that trans and gender-nonconforming folks are misgendered by the police. They may not have community members who and friends and family members who will step up and say, this is who this person really was.

And we just know that a lot of this goes under the radar, unfortunately. Really, we shouldn’t get into a game of trying to compare this year to last year, when did the homicides happen.

You know, it really doesn’t matter. This is a huge crisis, and we have to take action now. We have known about this for years now. And we should have taken action last year and the year before, but it’s not too late now.

Amna Nawaz:

Let’s talk about the action we have seen. In Dallas alone, right, there were three brutal attacks in the last several months, two of them fatal.

Beverly Tillery:

Yes.

Amna Nawaz:

The mayor came out and said, this is unacceptable. He called it mob violence, the attack against Muhlaysia Booker.

What you have seen in law enforcement in the way of response? Are you satisfied with what you’re seeing?

Beverly Tillery:

Well, we’re not satisfied.

We don’t necessarily see a response that is saying, this is more than just a trend. This is an epidemic in our society that needs to be addressed and taken seriously. And, frankly, you know, more and more community members are reluctant to turn to law enforcement, because members of the trans and gender-nonconforming community and, in fact, members of the LGBTQ community have experienced violence from the police.

They don’t trust the police.

Amna Nawaz:

Beverly, it’s worth noting we are speaking on the same day the Trump administration has rolled back some health care protections for trans people. Earlier this week, there was another rule they put in place allowing federal shelters receiving funds to turn away trans people serving — seeking services there. There’s also the efforts to push a transgender military ban here.

What effect have all of these even just proposals had on the trans community?

Beverly Tillery:

Yes.

I mean, talk about a complete slap in the face. You know, the timing is really important to note here because, on the heels of these homicides, where the community is already reeling, for the administration to, one after the other, release these proposed guidelines and rules this week, it’s clear that they do not care about the trans and gender-nonconforming community.

And, in fact, in the work that we have been doing in the city of New York and across the country, when we have brought together trans and gender-nonconforming folks to talk about what are the ways we need our cities and our states and the nation to respond to this violence and to help prevent violence, people over and over again have told us, we need housing, we need access to employment, we need better health care, so that we can put ourselves in safer circumstances and so we’re not as vulnerable to violence that’s happening in our community.

And what does the administration do? Seek to strip away access to health care, to housing, to employment. You know, all of the things that people have actually articulated that they need to address the violence, the administration is trying to take away.

Amna Nawaz:

Beverly Tillery, executive director of the Anti-Violence Project, thanks for being with us today.

Beverly Tillery:

Thank you so much for having me.

WITH THE SECTION 1557 RULE CHANGE, THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION HAS NOW DISMANTLED EVERY MAJOR TRANSGENDER PROTECTION IT CAN. (PHOTO CREDIT: CHIP SOMODEVILLA/GETTY IMAGES)

The Trump administration announced Friday morning sweeping changes to the rules protecting transgender people from discrimination in health care. Combined with an announcement earlier this week ending gender identity protections in homeless shelters, the administration has now taken steps to exclude transgender people from almost every aspect of public life, including employment, housing, health care, education, prisons, and the military.

The Trump administration has been forecasting these changes for some time. The changes to the health care rules proposed Friday, however, are perhaps the most damning evidence that it completely disregards transgender people’s humanity, and in fact views them as a threat to the safety of society.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) wants to revise what’s known as “Section 1557,” the nondiscrimination protections found in the Affordable Care Act. The Obama administration had interpreted the protections on the basis of “sex” to include gender identity, and the Trump administration seeks to reverse that interpretation. In fact, HHS even goes further and argues that sex stereotyping should no longer be protected, ignoring a Supreme Court precedent recognizing such stereotyping as a form of illegal discrimination. The scope of the proposed regulation mirrors a leaked memo from last year proposing to erase transgender people from recognition throughout the federal government.

The change incorporates exemptions found in Title IX allowing religious universities to discriminate on the basis of sex; under the new rule, religious hospitals will be completely free to do the same. This reinforces the separate “conscience” rule the administration introduced earlier this month, which would allow health care providers to discriminate on the basis of their religious beliefs.

When President Donald Trump took questions from the press Friday, one reporter pressed him on the rule change, asking, “Should doctors be forced to perform transgender reassignment surgeries?”

Trump responded by simply saying, “We’re going to see. We’ll see.”

A footnote in the new regulation speaks to how the administration is actively demonizing the transgender community. According to the footnote, states and localities can still enforce their own nondiscrimination protections, as can hospitals that set those policies for themselves. If, however, people have to share a dressing room or shower with a transgender person, the administration warns that allowing that accommodation could still be a violation.

The claim that transgender people are inherently a threat to others’ privacy is the same rationale inherent in the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) plan to revoke transgender protections for homeless shelters. A day after HUD Secretary Ben Carson said under oath that he wouldn’t be changing the rule put in place by the Obama administration, HUD announced that it was doing just that. If the rule change is implemented, homeless shelters would be free to force transgender and gender nonconforming people to be housed according to their “biological sex” — or they could deny such individuals access altogether.

These recent changes impacting transgender people’s access to health care and shelter follow a litany of other protections the administration has revoked.

One of the first dominoes to fall was education. After only a month in office, the Trump administration rescinded Obama-era rules protecting transgender students from discrimination in public schools. Since then, the Education Department has refused to hear any complaints of discrimination filed by transgender students.

The Justice Department followed suit later that year, rescinding a rule protecting transgender people in employment. This past December, the Office of Personnel Management also announced it wanted to make it easier to discriminate against transgender people within the federal government, completely erasing guidance about how to respect employees who transition.

Last year, the Trump administration also rescinded protections for transgender people in the nation’s prisons. That change would force transgender people to be housed in prisons according to their “biological sex,” making transgender women particularly vulnerable to violence and sexual abuse.

In so many of these attacks, the changes have been based entirely on nonsensically interpreting the word “sex” in a way that completely erases transgender people’s lived experiences. The memo leaked last fall even suggested that transgender people would be subjected to genetic testing to arbitrarily determine the appropriate “sex” category. This proposal offered no explanation for how it would categorize intersex people, who may have genes that aren’t simply XX or XY.

LGBTQ people are still fighting for protection ‘on the basis of sex’
This is especially noticeable in the administration’s incoherent defense of banning transgender people from the military, which has now been in effect for over a month. The administration claims that it’s not a ban, even though it prohibits anybody from serving in the military except according to their “biological sex.” While the administration also argued that accommodating transgender people’s medical needs would be too costly and take them out of commission for too long, the ban nevertheless prohibits transgender people from serving even if they have undergone and recovered from all the procedures they require.

As it stands, the administration will deny transgender people support for virtually any kind of discrimination they might experience. Some transgender people — including both students and workers — have found support in the courts, with judges accepting the reality of who transgender people are and protecting them under federal “sex” protections. But the Trump administration also argues against transgender people in these cases, as can be expected when the Supreme Court takes up a transgender woman’s workplace discrimination case later this year.

It’s no coincidence that the administration has been particularly cozy with anti-LGBTQ organizations like the Family Research Council, Heritage Foundation, and Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF). The rhetoric in all of these attacks on the transgender community is pulled directly from the hate these groups spew. ADF, in particular, has been at the forefront of opposing transgender equality in the courts, defending schools and workplaces alike that wish to discriminate.

Even before all of these rollbacks, transgender people were already one of the most vulnerable groups in the country. According to the U.S. Trans Survey, transgender people face far higher rates of homelessness, suicide attempts, and serious psychological distress — manifestations of the massive rates of discrimination they face in school, at work, when seeking shelter, when interacting with police, in health care, and even just in public spaces.

The Trump administration has issued nothing short of a license to eradicate transgender people from daily life. Each of the last few years, the number of reported murders of transgender people has increased, and Trump is apparently not interested in doing anything to give transgender people a fair chance at a basic life.

Black Trans Women Are Being Murdered in the Streets. Now the Trump Administration Wants to Turn Us Away From Shelters and Health Care.

This piece discusses violent attacks and deaths of Black trans women and will be updated to reflect those who have been killed in 2019.

It has been a horrific week for transgender and non-binary people. Muhlaysia Booker, Claire Legato, and Michelle Simone are Black trans women who have been murdered in the past week. At least five Black trans women have been killed so far in 2019. (Note: This number has risen since this piece was originally published with an updated list below).

On Wednesday, the Department of Housing and Urban Development wants to give federally funded shelters a license to discriminate and turn away transgender people. The policy move is seen by many transgender and non-binary people as an act of violence on our community and our lives.

Then Friday, the Department of Health and Human Services announced its plan to take away protections for trans people from discrimination in healthcare. Like many Black trans women, I struggled to find employment and experienced homelessness. I supported myself, and my family, by doing sex work. I was once assaulted and robbed by a client. Even in New York City, outside of the Stonewall Inn, I have been attacked and hospitalized.

For many trans and non-binary people, particularly Black trans women, our homes are not safe. Our schools are not safe. Our workplaces are not safe. We are ridiculed by health care providers and denied basic and necessary health care. When we don’t feel safe to get lifesaving medical care, and when shelters that receive taxpayer dollars are allowed to turn me and my community away, there is no place to go but the streets, where we face violence and murder. And too often, just like I experienced, law enforcement fails to respond.

Transgender people need our friends and family to see us, honor and acknowledge who we are, and say publicly that we belong.

In announcing the new proposal, which has not yet been formalized, HUD continues to spread lies and myths about transgender people that we have seen before. The Trump administration has been saying transgender people are lying about who we are in our schools, workplaces, and the military. It even suggested in the HHS comments that sharing space with trans people violates the rights of non-transgender people.

Trans women are women. Trans men are men. Non-binary genders are real. We face violence and discrimination in almost every aspect of life. We are not a threat. And we have a right to belong in this country and in shelters. We deserve access to health care.

To fight back against these attacks, here are three things you can do:

Check-in: Ask the transgender and non-binary people in your life how they are and what support they need.

Speak-up: Ask candidates for office and elected officials how they will respond to the violence against transgender people.

Support: Reach out to trans-led organizations and ask how you can be a part of the fight in your own community.

Transgender and non-binary people are a part of our country as voters, as taxpayers, as students, as parents, and as employees. We cannot be erased, no matter what this administration does.

Human atrocity doesn’t start with violence. It starts with prejudice and propaganda.
Annie Reneau
05.16.19

Not very many things scare me, but extremism in every form does.

We hear a lot about the extremism of radicalized Islamic groups, and yes, such groups are worrisome. But labeling an entire religious group with more than a billion followers as dangerous because of the heinous actions of its most radical minority element isalso extremism and needs to be called out as such.

We hear about child traffickers trying to smuggle children across the border, and yes, those people are worrisome. But making sweeping generalizations about migrants from south of the border and putting asylum seekers into the same category as human traffickers is also extremism and needs to be called out as such.

When we don’t recognize extremist thinking in our own ranks, we are headed down a perilous path.

I generally think that comparing anyone to Hitler and/or the Nazis is overstating and exaggerative, but I don’t feel that way today. Some of the statements I’ve seen about Muslims and migrants from media pundits, political leaders, and average Joes echo anti-Jewish Nazi rhetoric in frightening ways.

‘All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger.  It works the same way in every country.’

 – Hermann Goering, 18 Apr 1946

Credit unknown

Hermann Goering, who is quoted in this meme and pictured to the right of Hitler, was one of the highest-ranking Nazis who was captured and put on trial by the Allies after World War II ended. He was found guilty on charges of “war crimes,” “crimes against peace,” and “crimes against humanity” by the Nuremberg tribunal and sentenced to death.

The quote comes from a published account of a private conversation with a renowned psychologist, in which Goering explained how “people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders.”

We need to remember that Hitler and the Nazis didn’t start the Holocaust by gassing millions of Jews.

The Holocaust started with words. Hitler and the Nazis took advantage of existing anti-Semitic sentiment by fomenting fear and prejudice and spreading false and/or misleading information (propaganda) about the Jewish people. They played on Germans’ patriotism, exploiting their fear and sense of righteousness, making them feel like it was the most logical and reasonable thing in the world to officially identify Jews and curtail their rights and freedoms in the name of security. They successfully made persecution of and violence against Jews and others seem not only acceptable, but necessary, as they clearly posed an imminent danger to the German way of life.

It was a long game. Hitler played his anti-Semitism up or down for years, depending on his audience. He wore down the humanity of his people with years of constant drips of prejudice and fear. He gave it time to sink in, slowly collecting economic, social, and political woes that he could twist to blame on the Jews.

The Holocaust started with years of rhetoric and propaganda paving the way for discrimination and oppression, largely in the name of safety and security.

Then came the internments.

Then the gas chambers.

And decent people who would normally be appalled by such things let it happen.

That’s what fearmongering and propaganda do. And that’s why we all have to recognize it when we see it.

If you are getting your information about Islam from anti-Islamic websites or sources, or information about immigrants or refugees from anti-immigration websites or sources, pause for a minute and think. If you are a Christian, would you send someone to an anti-Christian website to find out what Christianity is really about? Would you send someone to an anti-Semitic website to learn about Judaism?

I could easily pull scripture from the Bible, pair it with stories of violence and extremism from Christian terrorist groups (yes, they exist) or individuals, and create a website that would make it look like Christians want to take over the world, kill adulterers, subjugate women, stone disobedient children, and force everyone to accept their beliefs. Would that website be an accurate place to go to learn about Christianity, if all I really knew about the religion was the violence I’d seen in the news from extremist groups and individuals?

Of course not. That would be the worst kind of propaganda and would paint an entirely false picture of what most Christians believe. But that’s the kind of thing many websites that claim to be educating people about Islam are pushing, and it’s terrifying that so many people don’t recognize it.

We’ve seen this before. This is why we study history.

We now have all of the information about how one of the most atrocious stories in human history played out. I hope and pray that we are conscientious enough to not even flirt with the opening act.

Add ‘Driving While Black While the State Attourney’ and I’m gonna own you for this fraudulent stop.

Cops were lying!  All police agencies and all police officers are obligated to know all the variables of their state’s licence plates and tags.  State agency vehicles are appropriately marked – plate, tags, logos, assignment numbers.  I know – I had that as part of my duties when I worked at ADOA (1999 – 2010).  Cop was lying about tinting.  No state government vehicle will have illegal tint.

Those pigs need to be prosecuted, send their *ss to prison, sue the city for millions.

Still, I don’t understand why Blacks are voting for Crooked Drumpf and Republi-cons.  Maybe it is the Niemohller Effect:  you don’t care ’cause it isn’t happening to you.

I would use terms and words for you Drumpfian and Deplorable Blacks, but that is not appropriate.

So suffice to say:  get a clue, buy a vowel.

Add ‘Arrested While Black in Your Own Car Parked on Your Own Property’.

TOPLINE A New York Daily News scoop published Thursday revealed that the Trump administration has siphoned around $4 million from the New York City Fire Department’s fund for its September 11 first responders, drawing outrage on the 19th anniversary of the attacks, but the U.S. Treasury says the money was diverted because of “delinquent debt” owed by New York City to the federal government.

KEY FACTS

The funds are part of the FDNY World Trade Center Health Program, which was established by the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010, a bill passed by Congress that provides healthcare to first responders who have suffered a range of illnesses from exposure to dust and smoke at Ground Zero.

“TRUMP DOESN’T ONLY HATE VETERANS, HE HATES FIRST RESPONDER HEROES,” tweeted actress Debra Messing in reaction to the Daily News report.

Fred Guttenberg, father of Parkland school shooting victim Jamie Guttenberg, said he was “F—KING P—-ED” about the report, because his brother died of cancer from 9/11.

“From the administration whose identity is built on claims of honoring first responders,” Julie Cohen, director of the RBG documentary, wrote on Twitter.

“This doesn’t surprise me at all,” Army veteran and advocate Paul Rieckoff wrote on Twitter. “Trump did NOTHING to push for the extension of #Zadroga last year.”

“We are also working with Congressman King and others to examine any potential authorities to provide relief in this case to support our nation’s 9/11 heroes,” the Treasury spokesperson. told Forbes, but could not provide any examples of how they would do it, and did not have a timeline.

CRUCIAL QUOTE

“Here we have sick World Trade Center-exposed firefighters and EMS workers, at a time when the city is having difficult financial circumstances due to COVID-19, and we’re not getting the money we need to be able to treat these heroes,” FDNY Chief Medical Officer David Prezant told the Daily News.

CHIEF CRITIC

“Pure evil,” tweeted Dr. Dena Grayson, a medical expert who specializes in ebola and other viruses.
